CONTROL DATA Models 9760 and 9762 Storage Module
Drives are random-access storage devices which use
removable disk packs in performing information record
and read operations. Model 9760 SMD uses the CDC®
9876 Disk Pack and has a capacity of 40 million bytes;
Model 9762 SMD uses the CDC 9877 Disk Pack, providing
an 80 million-byte capacity. Each disk pack contains five
disks, three are used in recording and two serve as
protective disks. Of the six recording surfaces provided
by the three recording disks, data is stored on five sur-
faces; the sixth is used for servo head positioning.

The basic storage module drive consists of a spindle and
associated drive motor; voice-coil head positioner and
servo system; read/write, fault, and transmitter/receiver
electronics; and an air filtration system.

Electro-mechanical options available for the 9760 and
9762 include:
